Is it Easier to get Social Security Disability if You are Older?

People often ask us whether it's easier to get Social Security Disability as they get older, and the answer is yes.
Social Security law assumes that as you get older, it becomes harder for you to adjust to new jobs. The key tipping point age is 50 years old. Below age 50 you have to prove you can't do any work at all. Above age 50 they will take into consideration your age, your education, and your work history. So, even if you can do a seated job, the law may assume that you can't adjust to a seated job because you've never done one. Then you'll be found disabled. All cases are different. Don't listen necessarily to what someone else tells you about what happened to them with their Social Security case. Just because age is considered does NOT mean that you can't get benefits if you are younger.
Every year, we win many cases for people who are in their 30's or 40's. We even help people who are in their 20's! Each case needs to be evaluated on its own. Feel free to call us at 205-879-3033.
