Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary disease (meaning you are born with it) that affects your lungs and digestive system. People with cystic fibrosis often have trouble breathing and frequent coughing spells. Repeated lung infections are also common. You may also experience digestive problems that interfere with weight gain, resulting in poor growth.
If you have these symptoms, it may be difficult, if not impossible, to work because you are constantly trying to keep yourself healthy and fight off infection. If you do get a lung infection, it may cause you to miss a lot of work and have trouble maintaining your job. You may also get shortness of breath that keeps you from performing your duties when you are at work.
With medical documentation of your condition, you may be entitled to get disability benefits from the government—Social Security Disability Income and/or Supplemental Security Income—to help you cover your bills while you aren’t able to work. In addition to the monthly monetary benefit you will receive, you will also receive health care coverage. This health care benefit could help you pay for your CF treatment, which, as you know, can be very expensive.
If you are struggling to work or have stopped working due to Cystic Fibrosis, call us at 205-879-303 for help with Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). You can also email us at LifeHealth@FriedmanFirmPC.com.
