Why Do I Need an Attorney for My Social Security or VA claim?

Earlier this week I was returning a phone call to a woman who was filing for disability. When I got her on the phone she said, "Originally, I thought I needed your help to file an application, but now I've done it myself-- Why do I need an attorney?" Next, she told me that Social Security was having trouble getting some of the records from one of her doctors. So I explained that's EXACTLY why you need an attorney. While Social Security is getting your records, so are we! Our job is to make sure that your case is complete so that Social Security has everything that they need to make a decision. Also, what about all those forms that social security sent you to fill out? Wouldn't you like guidance on how to answer the questions and why Social Security is asking those questions? Wouldn't it be helpful to have somebody look over your answers and give suggestions? Those are just some of the reasons that you should have an attorney.
These same ideas apply to Veterans' claims-- the questions the VA asks aren't always as straightforward as they seem!
We would be happy to discuss your case with you. Call Friedman Law Firm at 205-879-3033.
